I have yet to build an engine but I have to contribute something here. I started messing with electronics a couple weeks ago by building a transistorized ignition. This lead to a lot of tinkering with other electrical stuff. I decided to show my cub scout group how to build a simple electric motor and this is my beefed up version. It is amazing how fast it runs. Sorry the vids are so crappy but all I have is my cellphone camera. I'll try to get better video's soon if anyone is intersted.

Thats great you have the scouts doing stuff like that. I remember when I was a kid the best things I ever made at school was an electric motor made from wire coathanger wire and nails. The other was rockets

Thats all fun stuff we never outgrow. Im almost 40 and still have rockets. ;D

Cub scouts? good for you, lead them and teach them!
I quit cub scouts after two years of sitting indoors (year round) and making stuff from pipe cleaners, yarn and paper from two eldery women

I would like to see a pic of the motor, made one from a science kit when i was young(er).

The ignition is of interest also??

Tattoomike68- rockets were the best part of school! but if we entered school grounds now with a rocket it might be a felony :(

That's Great Stuff!

I can remember building my very first electric motor when I was much younger.
It was just a few strips of wood, bent nails and copper wire, but it ran.
Still have a scar from trying to break the wire instead of cutting it. LOL

On the rocket thoughts, is that considered juvenile?
If it is, I'd feel a little silly about still having these at almost 50! ;)

Here is a better quality pic. When it ran it ran good but the friction is too great where I'm using 4 bent pieces of brass as brushes.
