It's not pretty yet, but I finally got my Heinrici hot air engine running on charcoal instead of a torch.

There's still cosmetic work to do, like building a base and painting the thing. But today was a big accomplishment.

Very nice indeed! Whose casting set is this? Do you intend to run it on charcoal all the time or an alcohol burner? I love the heißluft.

Nice!

It's a kit from Myers Castings. I initially had some serious quality issues with the castings. Not like an unseen cavity after making a cut, but seriously warped parts even before making a single cut. After contacting the proprietor, I eventually got replacements and could continue the build. I hope their quality control has improved since then.

As for fuel, I have no plans to run it on alcohol or propane. I like to run my models on what they would have been run on when in real applications. (e.g. a steam engine should run on Steam!) It's not like you can go to the store and buy a bag of coal at Menards, so charcoal is close enough.
