This will be my first flame licker engine. It was a nice yet simply looking design I found on a French forum I frequent. Designed by Christophe Fournier. A great gentlemen, he will be happy to talk to you.

I only had an hour and wanted to make a part I could finish for the satisfaction of having "a good start" on this engine. You can also see this engine and a link to his drawings on YouTube. Search for "AFCF1 flame licker".

I had to translate the drawings, convert to imperial (not absolutely necessary but it helps with my dials).

This was a simple part, you can see the process. It only has one tight tolerance and the 5mm reamer is well in spec.

Don't expect frequent updates... my personal time is limited.

JW. Interesting project. Thanks for sharing.

A little update... had a little more time to play. I'm wanting to get this running bad so I'm staying up to have time to work on it.

Hope you like the pictures.

Looking great so far. Thanks for the pics.

Looking good, JW. Watching with interest. Since I don't speak or read French, do you mind sharing your translations and notes? I would like to build this one, too!

Will be more than happy to! Do you want just the originals translated or my drawings which are a little more "American" friendly? I made changes to use stock on hand, cut out a part I deemed unnecessary and to fit the bearings I had in my collection? I can upload Christophe's now and once I get mine scanned I can upload them.

Thanks, JW. If it's not to much trouble, both. And, if I may be so bold as to ask that you make your drawings available here for others that may be in the same boat.

Chuck

Here ya go, hot off the scanner. Translated and converted to inch. I'm not done with my engine yet but will spec and redraw to match my completed engine. Probably a month or so. Make sure you watch the videos of this little guy on YouTube. It looks like the best performing flamelicker I've seen. There is also a new cam profile... I'll upload it when I get it done too.

Thank you
JW, for myself and all the others that would like to build this enginr. I'll watch your build before I attempt it. My machines need tuning before I attempt this.

The original by the designer:

Some one from usinages:

So that's at least 4 running versions of this engine!

Looking great, flame lickers are such interesting engines and for people who have never seen or heard of one they have trouble getting their head around how the work. Love the acrylic base.

Thank you for the compliment! I've been saving that leftover piece for a long time, finally it's found it's place in life. Do you think it will hold? I may sink it flush in a piece of medium stained wood as the crappy fake wood of my desk looked pretty nice under it.

Had a little more time in the shop... so a little update.

I'm not terribly pleased with the quality of my work on the rod and cam but I'm wanting to see it finished badly! After I cure the fever a little I'll take my time and build a "pretty" one.

I like the little flourish you have put on the crankshaft stand and I think the flywheel is superb. This will be a very pretty engine. And I do understand the urge to get it running and then come back later. But I seldom seem to come back later; once it is running, I don't want to disturb it.

Thanks for the kind words Jim.

I managed to make this little piece yesterday.
