winch help!

I purchased a 2000lb pull winch for 30$ but it doesnt have a controller.
I am installing it on the box of my pickup truck to assist me on loading heavy things.

what can I substitute for a controller?

I was going to originally just put a battery under the winch and keep the ground on and hold the positive lead to start the winch not sure if thats ideal.

maybe one of you's has a controller.

Hi, maybe I can help. Most winches are controlled with solinoids like those on a auto starter. There are special ones that are like a single pole double throw relay and this takes two to be able to change direction. I have seen home made controller using four automotive solinoids. I could send a diagram if I knew how to draw one on here.

I have been a member for a while but have not been active due to some medical issues. I hope to have something to contribute in the future.
