I have a chance to get a Bridgeport J Head with a 9 x 42 table. Converted to single phase.

I see in photos it has a belt drive in the head. Is that an issue?

What do you think? Anyone have one? The guy I am buying it from is a trusted friend and he will tell me of any special issues it has.

I can never remember these letter versions, but the step pulley heads are what I would
prefer (over the "varydrive" ones) . We have 4 of them at school and I love them.
I would have preferred a 3 phase with a VFD but the selection of pulley ratios and
the high- low range works fairly fast once you get use to it.

I have not looked at the actual machine. From photos it appears to be the stepped pulleys. Thanks for the reply. "G"

If it helps you, I love mine. As with any machine tool check it out good. Indicate the table every direction and check the quill.
