In the third photo from the top, there is a herringbone gear between the magneto and the cam gear. It is set at a 45 deg angle and meshes with two ordinary spur gears and turns the axis 90 deg. That is a function usually given to bevel gears.

I have not seen everything, and I surely have not seen this. Is there a name for this gear? Is it a common application? Thanks for showing it
