There hs been some discussion on the Logan Lathe forum about the size of tools to use in QCTPs. Obviously, the size of tool holder determines the maximum size but there is no reason not to use smaller bits when it is required to get into tight spaces.

My solution is to use a 2" long piece of 3/8" square key stock with a longitudinal slot the width of the tool bit. Mill out the slot depth .010" less than the height of the tool, put the tool in the slot and tighten down the screws on the tool. If you put it in a tool holder that previously held a 3/8" bit you are within .010" for height before making any adjustment.
