hi,

i'm very new to the section of machinist and my idea is maybe not very usual:

i want to build an engine - V8 or V12
i've sight several plans - mostly designed by a german engineer named H. Schillings.

but i've never seen the plan for a 4 valve-head :-(
the man named up is dead as i can't ask him :-( - so i've to ask here

has anyone a plan or a adress for a plan ?

the V-engine i prefer has 4 OHC and mostly cams are driven else by timebelt or gear wheels.

the bore will become nearly 1" (25mm) - therefore the combustion chamber will get very roof profile (^)
to get enough room for the sparc

the project will take some month, because i plan to cast cylinderbank, crankhousing (and maybe head) in aluminium -
therefore i don't need a ready-to-use resolution but any design of any 4valve engine would help ...

the rest of the engine is such modular constructed, that an inline, boxer and V (6 to 12) engine can be build based on it.
for the ignition i havn't a real idea too - but injection would be fitted on it :)

the engine has not to work in any model - its ok when i can start it every year at christmas :)

i hope to get some inspiration here

milling the (wooden) models for the cast isn't a problem, like the tools to cast alu - most things are availiable or can be accessed shortly
(i've milled several molds before - for live steam - but not mine :-( )

It's not a V8 or V12 but is a four valve, double overhead cam engine. I have a set of the plans and they are excellent. Not just plans but also machining instructions. Ron is also great to deal with.

Frank, I had another thought on the 4-valve. There is quite a bit of material on the web about the Cosworth DFV Formula 1 engine.

For example: http://forix.autosport.com/8w/engines/dfv-draw.jpg

http://www.racing-legends.com/news.htm (Scroll to see the solid modeled version)

http://www.stradasportsstore.com/page4.html (Scroll down to CD reference guide)

http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2007/07/08/the-ford-cosworth-dfv-andrew-noakes-2007/ (A book on the engine)

You'll still wind up having to do a set of drawings, but it looks like the raw research material is available.

Cheers,

BW
