When you have a need and no $$$ to fill it, you build it. Wanted a pen lathe, but no $250-300 to spare.

1st picture - headstock- piece of brass hex stock, turned down 3/4" bolt.

2nd picture - details of the spindle - the small center is threaded into the end of the spindle.

3rd picture - turning the motor pulley (serpentine belt).

4th picture - setting it up - even the stand was re-purposed - one I built 20 some years ago, and spent the last 5 in the barn.

1st picture - details of the removable spur drive

2nd picture - mandrel for turning pens - screws into the spindle in place of the spur center

3rd picture- tailstock center for the mandrel. Another center uses a spur point.

4th picture - pen being finished on mandrel.

Have many more pictures for those interested in any part of the lathe.

Several new pens today, light colored one is peach, other two are black walnut.
