I have started building Konrad Muecke's 0-4-0, his design has the wheels thread onto the axle. I see problems with this method. Namely depending on a thread for concentricity and trying to get the connecting rods in time. There isn't any room on the back of the wheels for a hub and set screw. What are some other ways to attach loco wheels to the axles. I am leaning towards pressing them onto the axles except that makes it hard take apart.

You could try it with "keys" and screws:

This is what I did on my experimental engine build for an O gauge loco. If you have a look at the wheel visible top left of the photo, you'll see the key slot in the wheel. I just used round pins for convenience; the wheels are keyed to the axles, taking care of quartering, and the countersink screws go in flush with the wheel face and locks the wheel to the axle, as well as preventing the key from being visible and/or falling out.

Regards, Arnold
