Hello all! First off I would like to thank everyone on this forum for what they do, I have 3 days total time logged in here so far just reading and being amazed at what you all have done. I would especially like to thank Brian Rumpnow for his excellent posts and plans he has created. I am sure they will keep my shop time occupied for many hours to come. I stumbled across this site looking at Stirling engines on YouTube.

I have been taking things apart and trying to put them back together all my life, the chair my mother’s friend was sitting on, was not such a good idea at the time, but I was only 3. I have education in architectural technology and computer programming. In high school I took machine shop classes where I had built 2 miniature cannons, one functional  . I got back into RC planes several years ago and with that started to acquire parts for building a cnc router to make plane parts.

Several years ago I acquired a Tos 40 lathe and a Tos fnk 25 mill and all the tooling to go with them.

These belonged to my best friend’s (we have been trying to kill each other for 40+ years) father. These were moved into my brother-in-law’s garage so we both can use them.

We had to put a 20’ x 25’ dust cover over them :big:.

With this I started to make a Stirling motor from Jan’s plans. I am finding that my tooling is a little large for this so I am slowly re-tooling for smaller stuff. I hope to acquire a 3” or 4” four jaw chuck to mount in the chuck of the lathe. I am thinking this will allow me to hold the smaller size materials for these models.
I do not have any real formal training for machining but I am willing to learn with the help of all of you here, so all comments are read and thought upon.

Again I can only thank you all for this site, I hope I can add to these excellent surroundings.

Hi Tom and welcome to HMEM. Looks like you have a serious start to equipping your "dust cover". :big: Good to see another member from South Western Ontario. We look forward to your participation in the forums. If you have any questions just ask as there is usually someone around to answer or at least give an opinion.

Cheers :)

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I will endeavor to provide as much machine porn as acceptable ;)
This weekend I hope to get some current pictures of our shop and post them.

Welcome from Vancouver!

That's some pretty serious iron you have got there. I used to run a Tos horizontal boring mill. Nice machines.

wEc1 from the South West of OZ, nice looking machines. Take some moving don't they? Look forward to seeing what they produce. I am about to remove the dust cover from my machines and build a bigger and better one.

Thank you guys, from both edges of the world.

shedboy yes they are big the mill weighs in at about 2 tons. we moved the lathe from where it was in the picture to the new area under the windows and as we were doing it a roller caught and it tipped on to its face  we all scrambled out of the way as it went, no trying to save it, everyone was ok as for the lathe only a few minor repairs. all is good now.

Hi Archer3D
