I'm looking for a decent program for editing video. I'm getting tired of showing my crappy videos straight out of my little point 'n shoot and want to clean them up a bit before posting them.

I've seen some reviews on share/free-ware ones and commercial ones (e.g. Vegas video), but wanted some real life opinions.

Thanks,
Mike

What operating system are you using? Vista, as much as I hate it, comes with Windows Movie Maker, which isn't too bad of an editor... I used it on my last video.

XP Pro, I won't touch Vista with a 10-foot mouse-pole if I can help it.

A guy who does videos as part of his living uses Sony's Vegas Pro video editor. Of course the Pro version costs $600. He said the Vegas Movie Studio

at $55 is probably more then adequate for the short video posting I want to do.

PC magazine (or what's left of it on their website) had some reviews :

The Best Consumer Video Editors

The Best Free Video Editors

Figured folks here with some real world experience could give me some opinions :)

As a free program, I like VirtualDub.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VirtualDub.

It has it's limitations as discussed in the link but it's very intuitive and if you install the klite codec pack works really well with video from my Canon camera.

Hope this helps.

I thought I remember seeing it, but my XP machine is now a Linux machine running my mill, so I couldn't check it out.
