Hi all,

I'm about 98% finished with a Moryia stirling fan. I'm about to start on the alcohol burner for it and got to thinking about the fuel. What's the best fuel to run in these? Do they all soot up the hot tube?

I was thinking Methyl Alcohol but thought I'd ask those in the know.

Denatured ethanol is the common fuel. Available in the paint department of your local hardware. Invisible flame and no soot.

Ethanol is the best fuel for a burner.
It's greatest drawback is the flame is colorless and very
difficult to see.

I found a local drug store that sells a 91% Ethyl Rubbing Alcohol
right next to the Isopropal Rubbing Alcohol that works very well for me.
I have also used the standard Isopropal Alcohol to run my flame lickers.
When you light that, you'll notice a haze around the shape of the flame.
That's caused by the water content. You need to allow the flame to burn until
that haze disappears for a clean flame.

Rick
