Nice timelapse of process.

Anyone want to do the same and show them how to actually make a nut with a lathe?

It would make an interesting comparison.

Very interesting video to someone who has never cast anything before.

And what bolt will they fit on? :big: :big: :big:

Funny, he wears a good mask but he must have a stash of spare eyeballs!
Maxine will do her nut if/when she sees this!

Andy

looking at his safetygear and the concrete floor that would make him a nutter? :p

Nutter is right! Sneakers, no socks, scarry! Besides, with a chunk of hex bar I'd guess by the time he poured his first nut, I'd be finished all 10.

Cheers,
Chazz

I do like the video because it shows how it could be done. Not everyone has a lathe that can turn solid 1.5" hex brass bar. And the nuts have an "old time" cast look to them that cannot be replicated with machine tools. These nuts might be replacements for a 200 year old steam engine.

It looks like he's using petrobond... I've always like that stuff, makes for good detail (like the thread form) that'd be tough otherwise.
