Hi Everyone!

I have been a life long hot rodder and motorcycle enthusiast. I used to love to build models and want to learn to machine. Some of the projects I have seen on here are downright inspiring!

i have been looking at littlemachineshop.com. I am limited in space and money, so I am thinking about starting our with the HiTorque 7x16 Mini Lathe, Deluxe

http://littlemachineshop.com/5200

It is expensive but I know to always buy the best I can afford. I already have a drill press (it is old but solid) and grinder. My plan is to get a good handle on the lathe then add the corresponding mill
The above lathe only has a total 31" length, so I can easily fit that in my shop space in my garage.

Does anyone have any experience with this company (littlemachineshop)?
They seem well supported and have a loyal base.

I hope to build engines for fun.

nt peak for the m/shop but bought the lathe and very happy.7x16 with metal gears and tailstock/camlok.Posted lots of threads under Bazmak

Littlemachineshop has a great reputation as a supplier in the hobby community. I've had several orders from them myself and shipping has always been fast and reasonably priced (and I'm in Western Australia).

I have worked with LittleMachineShop on several seminars and build classes and think they are a great bunch. They attend both the major shows- Cabin Fever and NAMES- and always display a lot of good products.

I have the 7x16 lathe and am using it as the base for the a CNClathe build class to run in June. Its a small machine, but good for its size. The spindle motor is much better than the simple DC motors used on most other lathes- they are really just big sewing machine motors.

I would not get the deluxe lathe- the so-called DROs are just turns counters and do not help make accurate moves- they do nothing more than the handwheel. If you want a DRO function get the linear scale devices and attach them to actually measure the slide movement, not just the turns count.

LMS supports the hobby and there customers. They fly east every year to set up shop for the weekend ant the Cabin fever expo Show now in Lebanon PA.In January . http://www.cabinfeverexpo.com/ So you can attend the show and meet the owners. See the machines and ask questions.
OK I know january is a long ways away. The point is these are real people that are approachable. And they have a phone and e-mail.

Also if you want to talk to some experienced modelers you may want to visit http://www.roughandtumble.org/

Next show 13 14 may.
