Welcome rod.

An unusual introduction.

IMHO manual machines are far from forgotten both in the Home shop and production shop.
Manual skills are still just as valuable as they have ever been.
We encouraging all that can to learn manual skills first. then move to cnc if the desire and finances are there.
I expect some folk who learn cnc in college or at work to jump into cnc and that is fine.
I have cnc equipment in my home shop but still do most stuf manually . as I become more comfortable with cnc that could change.

This is a hobby we make stuff mostly for fun so whatever equipment people choose for there shop is there best decision.

What is the manual machining time required to turn out the Finned cylinder for Webster IC Engine?

What would the CNC machining time inclusive of programming, selecting the tools and programming the tool offsets for same cylinder?

How many HMEM forum members would go CNC to cut cylinder given the choice?
How many HMEM forum members would go manual machining for same cylinder?

This is just a survey.
