Dear Friends,

I am a new member from India. I am 51 years old. I am an electronics engineer by education. I am into manufacturing model trains and related accessories in various scales for my British and Australian customers.
I have a small workshop set up. I do have sherline CNC MILL and Lathe in my shop.

I would like to make some interesting projects like scaled cannons models, various simple engines to start with etc. These will be just for my satisfaction and my own showcase which I intend to pass on to My daughter and Son in future.

Kindly send me your suggestions. Please feel either to reply to this thread or directly send me a message. I would love to hear from you guys and girls. :)

Being new to machining, I may need lots of help and guidance from you experts. :) I can read a drawing but can not work with CAD softwares. I do manual coding as far g-code writing is concerned.

Thank you in Advance.

I have a CNC Sherline Mill which I’m still apprehensive about using. How did you get started in actual coding? Where are my manners, welcome to the group, Pramodisha. My name is Bill.

Hello Bill,
Thank you very much for your message.
I asked a friend and referred the book that came with the machine shop from Sherline. Then I also referred to a few websites and videos on Sherline website and tried to use fly cutter first thing and then slowly I start with easiest of programs. It is fun with the g-code and the machine but you need to make sure several times before you actually run the program. Dry run also helps a lot. I used to have several dry runs before actually making a cut. My name is Pramod and Disha is my wife's name.
Thanks again.

Thanks Mike for the link. These are paid plans and moreover they are not CAD plans. I am working on making CAD drawings for the similar one, 18 PDR in 1/16th scale. Hope to have plans ready by this weekend. :)
Thank you once again for your help sir. Where are you based?

Hello Richard,
I am at a city called "Nashik" or "Nasik". I am about 160 kms far from Mumbai.
Have you been to India? :)
Please tell me more about you.

Thanks.
Pramod S. Agrawal.
No, haven't been to India, but would like to visit. My wife is from Philippines, Cebu Island but we live in Washington State part of the year. For two years in US because of the covid. I am working in the harvest right now becuase I want to buy a mill. Last year, I managed to get a good lathe that is very nice. But now the harvest is killing me because it is 12 hour days on concrete. I have almost enough saved up but want that extra to bring it over the top as there is tax and transportation to getting a mill too. I will look up Nashik on the duckduckgo map.

Hello,
You are most welcome to visit India anytime you wish. :)
Ok. Have you been running the lathe? Have you turned some parts? Is it a CNC lathe or manual?
When are you planning to buy the Mill?
You can lookup the map with google map.
Regards,

*I have to get enough $$ for it. I need abut 5000USD more. My son will help out. I lookt for your house on duckduckgo.map but couldn't find it. My lathe is manual and yes, I have made some parts on it.

Welcome, Pramod! I have visited India once for two weeks, but was only in the south (Kerala) - I am hoping that I will be able to go back and visit more of the country!

Nikhil, do you have a photo of your icon to look at? It looks very nice. Did you machine it?

Hi Richard,

I machined this engine. Its a PM Research #5.
It was my first engine from a casting kit. Only thing not original is fasteners. I did replace all the fasteners in the kit with metric ones.
My thread is here
