Give it time, ask a few questions, and don't expect to become an expert in a couple of weeks, and you should be able to learn almost all you need to know to get to the level where you can do your own thing whenever you want.
Don't be afraid, just ask, we have all been at one time in the same situation you are in, just let natural curiosity and a willingness to learn be your guide.
Let the little chap/chappess be one of your mentors, mine acts as pure stress relief when things just don't quite go right, and in the beginning, you will get lots of times like that.
You've made a good start on making the first bits, but don't hope too much, 'will it' into being a running engine, and it will happen.
One good part at a time.
