I'm building a treadle engine for school and haven't the foggiest about dimensioning I'm using skate board bearings to hold the crank shafts what size stroke should i use to make it look right and any other general info would be appreciated

Hi Zig, have a look at Treadle engine Fred, thread on this board. The flywheels are 2" dia, All the shafts are .156 dia, the stroke is 5/8" and the lever pivot is 1" from the connecting rod. The finger rest is 1-3/4" long, travels just over 1" at the end. I had the advantage of Autocad to help plan it. The key issue to me was, how far does the end of the finger lever travel? Keep room to clear the frame and the table, and be comfortable to use. Good luck and please let us know what you come up with. Davyboy
