I am after another ER UM Type clamping nut for my collet chuck, I have been scouring eBay.

My questions are:
Is the thread in the ER UM type clamping nut universal?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of the ball bearing type nut?

Makes tightening a lot easier. Ausee in Melbourne have them, they are also shown in the Hare & Forbes catalogue .

Barry.

Mark,

I have been using those nuts ever since they were made available many years ago and have found them to be great. They have come down in price a lot, they used to be at least double what they are now from Arc Euro.

One of the main advantages for myself is that I can tighten the nut enough by hand to hold the cutter in there while I get the spanner to tighten things up, otherwise you need three hands to do it, one to hold the cutter, one to stop the spindle turning and the third to tighten up the nut. Before that, it was dropsy time with a carbide cutter at stake.

As mentioned by Barry, here is the Ausee link, they sell lots of the same stuff as Arc Euro do here.
