When building a crankshaft why is it recommended to silver solder and not weld it together with a mig? Is Penetration is better soldering? Or does the heat distort or stress the metal when welding.

Thanks

Fallnhorse--I believe it is all temperature related. The heat required to silver solder a joint is much lower than the heat created by a weld puddle of molten steel. Even when set on its lowest setting, a mig still changes metal from a solid to a liquid and then it quickly changes state back to a solid, which sets up stresses in the parts and pulls them out of "true".---Brian
