Anyone know anything about this grease?

I have this can of grease. It is obviously very old. It's labeled Bat's Grease by the Battenfeld Grease company of Tonawanda NY.

Whatver magic stuff is in the can hasn't degraded or separated in all these years. It is also the best stuff I have ever used. It is unbelievably slippery stuff.

Can anyone tell me anything about it? All I can find are some old ads from the 1920's...

This may be a really stupid question, but could it be a whale oil product?

Battenfeld are still in business. If you call them and tell them the number on the label they might be able to tell you what it is.

My guess is that it is or has whale oil in it. It was cheap and extensively used. The Titanic was launched on rancid margarine which was primarily whale oil.

Really, boiling it down( pun intended) is little more than the change of viscosities from the saponification of fatty acids( from boiling it down)
