Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I can obtain quality miniature drill bits? I have purchased a few sets of #61-80 drill bits and am constantly disappointed with the way they are ground. Close inspection shows they couldn't possibly cut metal.

Hi Greg,
All I can say is purchase quality drills like Huot or similar. All of the import ones I have ever bought are just plain junk.

I did some looking around and there are some Huot sets on Ebay. The Dormer set might be pretty good but I can't see where they justify that kind of money.

Hi,

Dormer is insanely expensive - and worth every penny after you've tried them.

I can give a general thumbs up for PTD drills. Haven't used them that small, but the fractional sizes are nice.

Be careful when buying branded drills especially from Ebay , many of the "better" names sold cheaper are not the real thing. The practice of forging western products has been going on for many years but is now so bad that even prescription drugs are being forged.

Is there a current source for the drawings for that sharpening jig?

You could try companies like: https://www.drillbitcity.com that resharpen drill bits used in the electronics industry. The bad part is that they are carbide designed for PCB drilling. How they would work on other materials is unknown. Sizes are limited too.

Other wise you need to check out the big vendors supplying machinist. It may also be worth looking at vendors marketing to clock and watch makers.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will add to my purchase list and wait for sales.
