I am a specialist at 3D CAD mechanical design. I have been designing prototype machinery and automation for 43 years now, in Canada. I can build any machine in 3D solids, and I can even make parts of the machine semi transparent so that one can see the relationship of interior moving parts. I can add "virtual" motors to the machines and make them run, then save the running machine as a video clip. Brian www.rupnowdesign.com

Brian,

I am also a 3D CAD specialist, been using Solid Works, Pro-E, Autocad Inventor for over 15 years. I saw your work...very impressive. Do you have any steam engines available?

Chris

Yes, I have many steam engines and machines which are driven by them designed and detailed in Solidworks. They have all been documented on this website, and detail drawings are available from the download section here. I also currently have plans for a beam engine published in "Home Shop Machinist" magazine Sept/Oct.-2009.

I have that issue! Nice job with that...very cool.

Keep up the good work.

Chris

I too am a 3D CAD Design Engineer I work in UG NX5 and NX6. Design specialty machines and lots of hydraulic machining fixtures.
Before becoming a Design Engineer I worked in the Tooling and Proto type shop for 27 years been a designer now for about 9 years.
I am amazed with your work and you ingenuity and I too have the Home Shop Machinist magazine. I've subscribed to that Magazine for many
years and have every issue from the time I started subscribing. I love that magazine. And I really enjoy this form.

Hi Brian & Chris,

I am a wanabe 3D type. I am a past user of AutoCad and now have access to AutoCad Inventor so I will be working to getting some small works completed. I will chase up your designs Brian that are on this site.

Chris, I have just be looking at a Pink Floyd doco on TV. I am a fan too. Went to their show when they came to NZ some years ago. Great!

Keep up the good work with the 3D virtual world. Iv'e thought for a long time that building in the virtual world would be very satisfying if one didn't have or couldn't operate a home machine shop. Also saves the cost of all those nice machines.

Hi Team,
Have now had some days "playing" with AutoCad Inventor and have several parts ans assemblies for a G1 De Winton type loco - live steam of course. I'm having a bit of trouble going back to 2d mode to do alterations But will meet with someone who knows these thing tomorrow. I have wheels, axles & bearings done and started the frames. Design is a Mix of two published designs with a bit of scale changing just to make things interesting.
Cheers,
Brian

Hi Brian. I'm also a long time ACAD user. Picked up a used copy of Inventor 5 several years back and found it very awkward to use. Played with it a while, but it's so much faster to draw it up in ACAD. You'd think AutoDesk could do a better job integrating the two products, especially at that price point.

BTW - Which one is pink? ??? ;D

Me, "will install phones for food". 30+ years experience in communication cable and fiber splicing, as well as installation and maintenance and riser cable management. For more information send me an Email request. I make metal chips as a hobby in my spare time ;D

BC1,
Beside you having all of the same engines I do.....My last job (10 yrs there) I designed telecom equip both copper and fiber.... cabinets runway, plenums, BET's......and on and on. And if you go outside your house the gray box (NID) where the the phone wires come in.....that might be mine too.

Mah' Brutha'! We've found each other at last!!!! ;D ;D Rof} (yeah right)

Yeah, I've most likely been in and around most of the stuff you designed. The industry has certainly changed dramatically over the years, especially this past ten or so.

BC1,
If it worked well for you then I designed it........if it didn't work well......I had nothing to do with it :big:

Hi Jeff,

Me too - I find Inventor "awkward" to say the least.

Do you or anyone out there know which is the ultimate 3d package - and is it cheap??

My my - there are a lot of wire jointers out there!

Cheers,
Brian

Ha.. Actually a misquote, it's "Oh by the way, which one's Pink?" from 'Have A Cigar' on 'Wish You Were Here', 1975. :p Don't know why it sticks in my head.
