Well hello to all I’m shore this has been asked but hear I go agan ? So I’m doing the Hodgson 9 for a start and thinking gaskets! O wonderful things in full size but my question is what do you very clever lads use ? Problem is I need very thin my brain wave tonight was ( as I was cooking dinner) bakeing paper ! Lol I got out the old 0 to 25 mm and it’s only .04 mm thick ( very nice ) and should be ok with oil and quiet a bit of heat .

Ok so am I nuts has anyone had the same thourt with success?
I will be very interested in any reply

That looks really nice in the .005 dam I will have a good look in Australia for it thanks

I get mine off ebay here in Aus. If you can't find it here try searching in metric instead. I think I buy 0.3mm from memory but it's been a while.

Thanks for the reply arrr yes metric lol I tend to forget about that will have a search thanks

I have successfully used a greaseproof/baking sheet paper head gasket but I have not run the engine for any prolonged period. Both the mating surfaces were lapped flat. I stripped it down after an hours running and there was no sign of any burning out. The cylinder head does have a water path through it.

Hi joump5
I wasn’t thinking head gaskets more so for frount cover and under cylinders
As for the head gaskets the copper should be ok but I have seen soft ally flashing about 1 mm thick
Would the copper be a problem as far as corrosion???
I would look for the ally flashing I think

Thanks tonym
Yer I thought it should be ok I will give it a try as really so cheep and nothing to lose

Ok so I’ve orded some .25 mm for the frount cover cheep as on eBay thanks cogsy metric helped a lot lol but yer I will try the bakeing paper under the cylinders as to not play around with cr as it’s only .04mm your all so very helpful
Regards Tim

I have only used printer/photocopy paper, cut it out, soak it in oil. Used it in steam engines, flame lickers and IC. Yes head gaskets too, it does not burn away.
