Mi first attempt at cutting spur gear.
Cut the first 60 teeth, takes 1.5 turns of the rotary table handle.
After cutting 60 teeth the 1.5 number is pretty burned into your brain.
Mount the 30 teeth blank and proceed to cut about 12 teeth cranking 1.5 turns.

Well you know that it take 3 turns to cut a 30 teeth gear.

I'd like to at least :) but I've been down that road before. I feel the pain.

I have yet to jump into gear cutting . have studied it some . I understand there are a few 31 1/2 tooth gears out there somewhere.
good luck and press on

Rings a bell, and it is especially painful when a lot of work on a piece has already been done.

I find myself chanting out loud when I index, like on a dividing head...

In my head... "OK, it's 4 turns plus 5 holes..."

Out loud... "ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, plus five holes, DROP the pin, SHIFT the fingers, TIGHTEN the head..." Repeat a million times. :D And I always try to leave the setup (if I have to) pre-indexed and ready for power on to the cutter.

Been there too, counting out loud not only helps, but ensures someone will come into the shop
and wonder if your still sane. :big:
