What are this z-screws for on my lathe

what are them z-screws for???,i also placed a piece of thin copper/brass sheet,under the fot for the saddle,and now it dont backlash so much, i only have gib screw on one side of the saddle,are there supposed to be gib screws on both sides on the saddle??

i got one of them z-screw on each side, of the saddle,and there are nothing under them

They might be used for adjustment of the gib under the slide way. The screw in question is set back from the other two cap screws, it may be used to put pressure on one side of the block to take out slack, and then the two cap screws are tightened.

The top photo looks like the covers for the way wipers- a piece of felt made to keep chips from getting under the ways.
 
The top photo is of the little brass sheet i place inder the fot of the saddle, for to get less back lash, i dont have gib screws on the wheel side...
