Small local show coming up this week in Canandaigua, New York. This show has a lot of full size engines, traction engines, and tractors, along with a small building with model engines. They also have tractor pulls, and a flea market.

Here is a link to their website:

The Canandaigua Pageant of Steam is a HUGE show for anyone that likes old gas and steam engines, tractors, antque tractor pulls, flea market, and this year the Historical Construction Equipment Association will hold its 29th Annual International Convention and Old Equipment Exposition at the show. The model building is nice sized, but exhibitor attendance has been lower the last few years. We could use some new model builders. Air is available.

I'm going to try to attend as I'm only outside of Rochester it isn't that far away. The important thing is that I'm not working that weekend! 😎😎😎😎

As for a small show I'm not sure where that idea came from. The Pageant of Steam is a great success story if you ask me. Local scuttlebutt is the idea was hatched and the planning done in a local firehouse. It has been a long time for me but they have some nice facilities now.

As a side note it has been raining so much here I'm thinking any tractor pulls will involve pulling things stuck in the mud. I can't even remember the last day without rain.

The pageant could use a bit more alternative marketing. Simply listing in forums like this weeks in advance would help with planning. I'm surprised too that nothing is done at the likes of Cabin Fever and similar shows where gas engines are a popular subject.

It has been years since I've attended, mostly due to scheduling issues, but this year I had to search for the Pageants web site to find the show dates. If I didn't already know of the show, I wouldn't know that it existed.

Guess I should have been more specific that the model engine display is on the smaller side (compared to some of the other shows). The full size engine part of the show is great - well worth the visit!

I wish I could attend, but my budget is blown for the year. Maybe next year...
Unless I can get someone from my area to go and share expences...
Todd?

Made it yesterday for a few hours. Well worth the 6 bucks. Not a lot of steam, but they did have 2 big corliss engines running and a good selection of steam tractors, lots of hitnmiss engines and, for this year, a nice working display of antique construction equipment with a big dirt play area for the exhibitors to go move some dirt around in so we could all see these things in action. Hoping for a real steam shovel, but didn't get so lucky.
