Hi,

now my next machine will grow.

normally i take some time until next build - but i got 2 flywheels - they have to be used .-)
and: some people want to see how i made such parts like cylinders - even without rotary or index table

first the difficult and long-machining part: the cylinder

a piece of dirty cast iron - everything but not angled nor straight

saw - mill - saw again - mill into a rectangular block:

Step_0.jpg

the block has dimensions 42 x 44 x 50mm
takes nearly 1 hour :-(

then turning the bore and milling first side of "casting surface"
Tool: bull mill dia 5mm and corner radius 1,25mm
(normally i use ball end mill - but i don't have one long enough at the moment)

Step_1.jpg

(last picture one and a half hour after beginning)

finish mill first side and rough second one:
Step_2.jpg

(end of picture sequence after 3 hours)

now rest mill 2nd side, finish second and finish 3rd / 4th side
Step_3.jpg

(3rd and 4th side don't get rough - they where processed on first two steps)

and finally got this on:

now the slots for valve face - pre-milled with 2mm endmill and finished with 0,8 carbide endmill:

result: a nearly casted looking cylinder:

the time to made it: roundabout 5 hours - maybe 6

hope that there came a litle bit light into what i'm doing :)

Nice photo composition! It's great to have CNC-capable machines, isn't it? ;D

oh yes - without cnc a work of days :-(

Very nice work!!!
Hopefully one day i will build something that will actually work!!!

And maybe one day i will have some CNC stuff, but for now it is the old way...

Hope to see some more pics of this engine in the future!!! Thm:

Hi Bob,

its done on a small CNC-mill
(i've postet it several days ago - but it seems that some posts are gone ? )

here's a small update:

Very nice surfacing, some beautiful parts!!

Hi,

small (easy) parts are handwritten (shop-programmed at the machine)
the cylinders for example (the cast looking surface) is programmed with BobCAD/CAM (first time used it in this manner - before i've used the demo of MeshCAM because BobCAD was a mysery to me before)

simple parts for example the following "triangles" at the top of cylinder:
