I use spray red Dykem for marking reloading brass, and a friend with a commercial machine shop saw it asked me about it. I said "It's just dykem, you have some around the shop" and was surprised to hear "nope, all we use is magic markers".

Guys,
I believe that he was asking about bluing chemical not lay-out dye.
If that is the case cross contamanation is the cause.
I never dip a Q-Tip into the bottle. I pour out what I think will be enough and when finished it is disposed of. Mine is still good after about 6 years. Warm the metal up a little and degrease well before bluing.

Went back and read OP and my mistake Tony was asking about DYKEM
I am going to leave this as I feel that there is a little bit of good information
