A new (to me) mill followed me home yesterday. The seller threw in an old Chinese built vise, but it's missing the fixed jaw and the jaw pads (if that's what they're called).

The jaw pads seem like a fairly simple project. I've got some 1 1/4 or 1/12" aluminum bar stock. Just whack off a couple of pieces and drill them, perhaps face them.

I'm less clear on how to build a replacement fixed jaw. Any guidance here? Suggested materials?

Thanks

That vise is missing more than just the fixed jaw. There should be a big block of steel with a slot the same as the one on the vice body. Then a "key" is put in the slot Screwed to this is the fixed jaw.

there is a pic here

I read the story in the Docs Machine link.

Brutal! :p

If a new guy bought that and didn't know better as to what to look for, what chance have you got!

The piece of spring instead of a pin takes the cake.

My grizzly had a spring, it fell out and
i replaced it with another spring. It works like a champ.
