magnetic dial indicators

Hi All
I have seen several pics lately of dial indicators with magnets
on the back. While I like the idea my question is, would the magnet forces
interfer with the internal workings and affect accuracy.

The one I took apart was operated only via gears and springs, plus it looked like SS for the most part.

Got to be honest - all my indicators have some sort of magnetic base on them or another, and some have been used choked-down pretty close to the indicator itself with no problems whatsoever.

Now, i need to caveat this by saying I don't buy cheap foreign-made ones, so your mileage may vary with an import knock-off.

Relax - they're made to deal with it in the vast majority of cases.
