Quick and dirty - you could use the 4 jaw independent and sandwich blocks of aluminium or similar between each jaw and the body of the part, effectively building it up higher than the disk so the jaws can grip. I can't see why that wouldn't work.

Hi Rik

Turn up a collar larger in diameter than the web and bore to same diameter as the shaft. Slit lengthwise and fit in the 4 jaw with the slit between jaws, clock to ensure no run-out. You could use a 3 jaw, depends on what accuracy you need.

How do you plan to machine a hardened shaft ?

Thanks for the suggestions, one of those will work I'm sure. As for machining the hardened steel, I don't know yet. I may just get a chunk or drill rod and start over. I only paid $16 for the whole engine, supposedly new, but with stripped screws, and a stripped threads on the drive screw. Hate it when that happens.

Annealing and hardening again is going to be a problem isn't it. Any suggestions on that?
