You set the hole on center the suggestion is use the tailstock center if you want it perfect then set a piece in the chuck and machine a 60 degree point on it it will be centered.

That's the beauty. It doesn't need to be centered. If the tip of the rod is running true to the axis the other end won't wiggle. It's just a wobble amplifier.

The one I use has a hole in the end of a bar instead of a blade.
The hole is filled with a rubber type compound and the rod goes through the rubber thus giving the flexible joint.
No need for a ball joint or other more complicated arrangement.

Nice technique, two questions:
I assume the blade centerline must match the chuck centerline?
Is the blade held in a toolholder or?
