Hi All,

Has anyone built the Kozo's New Shay in 5" scale for the book? or would 7 1/2 be a better option? if so what are the pitfalls if i am planning on only using bar stock?

I have always liked the quirky and in the UK this would be that. ;D

cheers
Ian

You should build to the gauge of where you want to run it. If that or the scale is different from that in Kozo's book, you'll need to be able to scale the plans up or down appropriately.

For the A3, the only non-bar stock items necessary are the drivers.

In Kozo's book "Building The New Shay" (ngagne: the book includes full plans/instructions, available direct from the publisher - Village Press), he writes up the main part of the book for 3.5" gauge, with a big chapter in the back with differences for a 7.5" gauge version. If you wanted a 5" gauge, it would be a lot of manual scaling, plus using the differences from the 7.5" one.
