Hi guys
I need to make a 7/16 d bit and do't have any silver steel (drill rod) handy but I have an old drill bit the right dia for the d bit. Can this be used to make 1? I'm thinking it is but with things not being what they seem I thought I had better get another opinion as mine tends to be faulty :big:

Can be done, but harden/temper it after you have it in shape. Especially if you do it from the shank, it´s soft as it is, as you can easily verify with a file.

thanks for the info ...I wouldn't have thought to temper the shank
