For the insert that goes in the slot in the top of the cylinder, there is not need to create a new model, since you already have the profile you need in the cylinder block.

Just make a copy of the cylinder block, draw an outline for a cut, make sure the "cut" goes to the outside, and presto, you have your insert.

Always make use of any existing geometry you have to make a new part.
Don't reinvent the wheel if you don't have to (think smarter, not harder).

For the bottom of the eccentric strap, don't waste time drawing an entirely new model, just make a copy of the upper strap, and then cut off the part you don't want/need.

If you recycle parts that you have already constructed, you can save a ton of time.

Some have suggested making a 3D part just as you would in real-world machining, ie: start with a large solid block, and whittle it down.

I find that method counterproductive, and instead prefer to grow the part from a series of extrusions and cuts. Whatever works for you, but that is my experience.
