    Mark's First investment casting

Mark's Lost Resin Casting or Old fart learns new tricks. I have been doing sand casting and lost foam casting for awhile and that works out well for larger parts. But for smaller parts lost wax or plastic works better. I could only do the sand casting when the weather permitted as it needed to...

    Marks Kiln build

I am setting up a bench-top foundry in my shop for doing lost “resin/pla/wax” casting and I need a small kiln. I looked at commercially available units and found the prices quite sobering and then the shipping costs and for me (10.3 percent) sales tax. So I looked at home built units on...

New spindle for CNC router table

About 20 years ago I built a homemade router table. I mostly did wood projects at the time for my boat shop. I used a Porter Cable 3.5 HP router that could rip through a lot of lumber without any protest. Over the years I replaced the bearings three times and the brushes twice. It is on the...

    Rotary table problems

I am using a 6” rotary table I bought from Grizzly. It should have been painted brown so a buyer would know what a turd it is. Its sloppy, the center hole is off center and has almost a full degree of backlash. So I would like to hear from you guys. What 6” table would you recommend. Mark T

    Model display shelf

Hi Got a start on a display area for my models. Two of them are big and they each weigh nearly 100 pounds. My space is small so the models had to be stored close to the wall. To provide for displaying both sides I have built a shelf that sits on a Lazy-Suzan. The drawer slides are rated at...

    Scrap brass and bronze

Hi I have a great source for scrap Brass and Bronze. Boat repair shops that specialize in ski boats produce a lot of scrap yellow metal. For whatever reason they just toss the scrap in a pile behind the building. If you drop in and show them what you make from scrap they often offer some of...
