I run on propane because my wife doesn't like the smell of white fuel in the house. I use a jerry howell suction diaphram homade, and use a propane regulator off a BBQ grill with a gauge to watch PSI.

I need to refine some of my machining....but this is my second engine.

Hi, great job. A friend of mine has an older one of these and it will only run for a minute. We believe it's a carb problem. He's very handy and has cleaned the carb, but thinks something is still wrong with it.
Can anyone help with sourcing a new carb? Thank you

The carb on mine wasn't sourced. It was built to plans. From what I remember it was very simple to build. Nothing like a Lunkenheimer, just a few pieces. I built the carb right to the plans and it ran on the first try. Never had any problem with it running. I'm not sure where to get the plans for this engine anymore. Good luck.

Coincidentally yesterday I acquired a small horde of Perkins model stuff that might just help you guys out. I will try to get pictures later today. The guy was building at least 5 Perkins engines. There are two complete unmachined casting kits and a nearly finished scratch built copy of a 2 1/2 hp Perkins he was making using most of the same dimensions as the 7 hp kits. I am going to wait till the remainder of the estate has been gone through before getting rid of any parts but as it sits now I have multiple extra near finished carburetors, jigs for machining carburetors, extra mufflers, and lots of other extra small bits.

Model 2 1/2 hp Perkins compared to the 7 hp casting kit. He was copying a full size Perkins engine that had been in his family since new. All of the governor, and valve train parts are on the opposite sides as compared to the casting kits.
