I'm just learning the art of machining things made of metal.
I have a midi-sized lathe,and a freestanding mill.
The lathe is an AL-250G and the mill is a BF-20vl.
I don't know what the equivalents are outside of Australia.
But I figure the gear is around middle of the road level.
It certainly more capable than me at the moment.. :)
 
Welcome Bluey. I haven't heard the 'G'day from WA' ads for a very long time... Lots of info and helpful people on here to get you on your way to building whatever it is you're interested in.

Looking at the photo of your shed in another post you won't run out of space !
The lathe and mill you have will serve you well and i was looking at buying the AL250 but an AL 320 came up for the right price so i got it instead . I also have the little brother - AL50 which was my first lathe and for some reason i still gravitate towards it most of the time - maybe because it ha been such a trustworthy little machine that has done all i have asked from it except one thing , it cannot cut the same thread it uses on the spindle nose for the chuck to screw on ! Fortunately the AL 320 could !

I looked at the AL320 and if it had been a bit lighter I would have grabbed it.
I was in a situation where I would be transporting and unloading it on my own, so the AL250 got the nod.
I had to claim a new electric motor on warrantee after only a couple of months, but otherwise I'm not disappointed with the way it performs.
A couple of retired toolmaker/machinist friends steered me away from the AL50 size machines saying, I would soon grow out of it.
We'll never know now..
