Large Snow engine?

My Snow engine book says to have a 1" bore and a 9"x2" flywheel.

If I wanted to make a larger engine with a 4" bore would I have to have a 36"- 40" flywheel?

Thinking of building an engine that my dad could actually do some work with at threshing shows.

Base of it will be close to 10'.

As the flywheel stores rotational energy a three foot flywheel on a single cylinder engine that is going to perform work, sounds about right

The original 600HP Snow had a 24'' bore & 18ft. flywheel. a 9to1 ratio. I believe your estimation is correct.

Technically it is a 2 cylinder - same principal as a steam engine.

Where ever will you get a big enough boiler to provide steam for something with a 4" bore?

Hi there is more to figuring this out then multiplying numbers .There is a tape out by village press by a Rudy Kouhoupt that tells you how to do it . I believe it's called How To Figure It Out Hope this helps .Dale
