As someone who has owned three versions of trainz I have to say that it is a very good sim ,BUT, to get the most out of it involves a very steep learning curve.

there is a forum, http://forums.auran.com/trainz/index.php with some very helpful guys on it.

unlike other sims this is open ended which means there are no boundaries or limits to how big a route you can build, which in turn means you can bring a top notch gaming computer to it's knees if you are not careful.
however it's still great.
