Thoughts on mini lathe modification?

Hi all

Just wanted your opinion on this http://warhammer.mcc.virginia.edu/ty/7x10/xslidemod.html modification to the cross slide on a mini lathe... worthwhile? Safe?

That was among the very first modifications I made to mine. Then I went back and added length to the lead screw so that I had full travel back. You'll lose a bit of travel toward the back side of the lathe, which will limit what you can do from that side of the chuck. Replacement lead screws are cheap and arent that hard to cut and use to add back the lost travel.

I really appreciated the mod when I stepped things up to the 5 inch chuck. As long as you don't get too carried away, the mod won't hurt anything and will probably turn out to be just as much a plus for you as it has been for me.
