Bought the partially machined castings from the father of a friend's neighbor. Just about everything that had been machined was machined poorly. Threw away the cast iron crankshaft it was so bad (under dimension on both sides, but not the same amount, the shaft had a taper to it on each side, and it was also warped like a banana). I built a new one up from 4 pieces. Had to solder more brass onto the crank bearing blocks to get them back up to where I could machine them to fit the base. Those are just two examples of having to fix things
It came with the book on how to build it, but a gentleman named Dan Fay (A.K.A - "Grandfather steam") told me to ignore the book and build it from the top down. I did as he suggested and it runs quite nicely.
I figure I put about 250 hours into it.
