Hey Guys,

Been several years since I've been on the forum excited to get back into the hobby now I have some shop space. One of my recent purchases to fill out a small amount said space was this sweet little Sanford SG48, it popped on Craigslist between my house and work so I had to jump on it since it's in either like new or hasn't been used since a rebuild.

So for I've just dusted the chuck and ground a poor Starrett 453 square that I'd left in a pocket and ended up getting caught in the washer's drain. I'm pretty happy with the results, but still have a lot to learn about surface grinding, of course that's all part of the fun.

I've got a couple questions about this, first being is anyone familiar with Schellenbach Machinery Co. in San Francisco? I'm guessing they were a distributor for Sanford, but I also thought they could have been the company that rebuilt the machine. I keep thinking rebuild because the machine is tight&clean with all the scraping on the ways, but a few details are bit different than the normal 2nd generation Sanford Grinders I could see online like the painted handles, v-way covers being square, and no logo on wheel guard. Either way it's neat that the machine came from somewhere so close-by.

My second question is what is this assembly? It came with some other misc. pieces in the cabinet (extra wheels, and even a spare tube for the mag-chuck controller). It seems to be some sort of stop for a rotating shaft? It came in pieces so I'm just guessing at the assembly order. I realize it could have nothing to do with the grinder but figure it couldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks in advance for the help, I'm excited to make some parts on this guy.
