Hi all,

Was going to drill a hole through a little fly wheel that I'm making for the Tiny engine. I put the B16-MK1 morse cone in the tailstock and then mounted the chuck. I made a final check that all was ok before start drilling, well it wasn't. The MK1 cone had some movement in the tailstock which gave a play of maybe 1mm at the drill point. I removed the assy and fitted the live center in hope that it might be the morse cone which is the problem. Of course this had some movement aswell.

Do you guys have any idea of what the problem might be?

Thanks,

Alex

Alex,

Have you checked the tailstock bore for an errant bit of swarf? That might be the problem.

I made a tailstock bore swab by mounting a 12 gauge shotgun swab to an aluminum handle. The fine fibers of the swab catch and trap almost any kind of metallic crud.
