Hi all my first attempt at a thread.
I’m Alan a newbie from sunny Morecambe.
Lancashire North West. U.K.

I have always been interested in model making and casting.
So now I have the time on my hands I have decided to have go before im too old.
(The only castings I have ever done were lead fishing weights)

I have been reading up on casting sands and as I won’t be doing it daily I was thinking that oil based one would be best.
I have search the internet to try and find one ready mixed up and ready to use.
As there are so many differing mixes and the ingredients are hard to find some I can’t find.:wall:
Dose anyone Know where I could purches 50 kg of K-Bond or similar ready to use?
Or any helpful Please advise.
Thanks

aluk, welcome to the forum. I highly recommend oil bonded sand for the biginner and experenced combined. any Ideas for a first project?

Hi aonemarine

Thanks for your reply.
I do'nt have any projects in mind at the moment.
Just really trying to get set up and hopefully with some good equipment.
I have found a supplier of oil based casting sand. (John Winters in Halifax and its Bentomix)
I only live 400 yards from a beach full of it. I didn’t realize sand with a couple of additives could be so expensive. LOL
I am now looking for a reasonable lathe, I have limited room so was thinking of getting a second hand 3 in 1 combination lathe.
I have been reading up on them and I think they are like Manchester United football club you ether love them or hate them.
The Chester Centurion looks about the ticket size and money wise.
I just don’t want to buy a lathe that is worn out or not up to the job.
I really have not got a clue of what would be the best way forward.

Kind regards Alan
