I just acquired a ML7 from 1952. It runs nicely with no rumble and no chatter when I take a heavy cut. It does not have sight feed lubricators but cups with wicks in them (pipe cleaners actually). The problem is that when I start up the lathe I get a faceful of oil from the bearing behind the chuck. I don't know if this is a sign that the bearing is worn or if it is just a case of too much oil being delivered to the bearing. I suppose a thinner wick may cure that or I could buy some sight feed lubricators.

What is the verdict?

I would say sight feed oilers are your answer, much better control.Congrtulations on the lathe,I love mine.

Thanks, I have ordered a set. In the mean time I'll have to enjoy an oily face. ;)

worse things happen i suppose... ;D

i got rid of my myford last year...... BIG mistake. :(

Hello.
Oiling my Myford is a mess anyway. It's one of the few disadvantages of my S7.
Tried different oil guns but none seems to be optimal for lubricating the
back gear bearings.
Cheers,Ralph
