Perhaps today would be a good day to post a picture of my very first engine. It is a scale model of a 65HP Cast Traction engine. Rough castings came from Tom Turning in Kansas. The drive gears are Boston, and everything else was gathered locally. It was completed about 1980, when I was not much more than a kid. Well maybe a little bit more. Materials ended up costing about $1000, but then construction time was three years. That is less than a dollar a day. What other hobby can a person pursue for any less. You cannot even buy a can of worms to go fishing for a dollar. It won a best of show trophy at the Utah State Fair, but that is not what it was built for. It was built to take to shows, and has been shown at numerous shows in Utah and surrounding states
