The milling attachment I have for my lathe is a Palygren(spelling), not a homemade one. I can only say that it's like trying to mill on a rubber table. Anything more than the absolute tiniest cut is a complete exercise in frustration. After one use, I went and bought a milling machine. The Palygren has set on the floor under the lathe ever since.

If you can build one that has some "real" meat behind it, it might be useful.

I think you mean Palmgren and not "Palygren".

I have one and used it on my (12") lathe before I had a milling machine. While it's certainly not meant for hogging, I had no trouble making some fairly intricate pieces with it.

Success with a milling attachment depends mightily on the rigidity of the lathe. Locking unused gibs and snugging the one used is essential.
